It's so silly we all believed this to be true. After all what nonsense it is that religious persons would advocate destroying ancient historical artifacts. Right? |

Yeah now consider that we're apparently the equal of major multi-million dollar news outlets who also apparently repost unverified twitter feeds as true to millions of viewers. |

this prompted me to think about just how MUCH explosive would be needed to demolish the pyramids, those damn things are HUGE. i dont think egypt has enough money lying around to do that, let alone islamist fundies. |

Much easier to have sex with the pyramids and destroy dead wives instead. |

I'm no expert in explosives, but I'm pretty sure it takes 5 direct hits to sink a carrier, four for a battleship, and three for a destroyer. Therefore the pyramid is 3.5 shots? |

you would also have to take into consideration that the pyramids are also almost completely solid too. You basically have to level several large stone hills. |

Lots of mass or lots of energy would do it. If you could drop a good-sized asteroid from the Belt on it, that would be more than sufficient. Ceres would probably crack the mantle with that much Δv. |

If you haven't already seen this.... The Giant Buddhas If it is in fact the movie I saw (netflix says I did) then it's a fascinating movie. The area in which these Buddhas were located is a completely different culture than the rest of Afghanistan. Different language, religious sentiments, everything. They had been living with them for generations, and didn't want them to be destroyed. |
