Kinsley gaffe

quote [ Mitch McConnell On 30 Million Uninsured: 'That Is Not The Issue'

The GOP has been making some.....interesting comments this week.

Mitch wasn't the only one going Kinsly.

Turzai: Voter ID Law Means Romney Can Win PA

Admitting the true motive behind voter ID law is suppression.

“Pro-Second Amendment? The Castle Doctrine, it’s done. First pro-life legislation – abortion facility regulations – in 22 years, done. Voter ID, which is gonna allow Governor Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania, done.”

But where the Republicans surprised me, was the off the wall batshit crazy, down right fuck the law, defiant attitude when SCOTUS ruled in favor of the heathcare law.

Governors vow to ignore Obamacare

Republican governors are planning to ignore the Supreme Court's decision Thursday to uphold Obamacare hoping that the issue will drive voters to dump President Obama in favor of Mitt Romney who has vowed to kill the Affordable Care Act.

After the decision, the Republican Governors Association said that nothing should be done by the states until after the election, a clear signal that they believe a GOP president, House and Senate will kill the health care reform pushed through by Democrats and opposed by Republicans.

The GOP doesn't seem concerned about any center backlash over any of the stunts or language they use. Even after the release of this

http://features.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2012/06/27/fast-and-furious-truth/

The went ahead with a contempt vote on the AG.

The most alarming thing about that vote wasn't that it had all but one GOP vote it was that it got 16 Dem. votes. The NRA has become the entire story here.

Not only was there never any "Gun Walking", the problem is there was LEGAL gun sales going on in Arizona ...and continue to this day. They were unable to track sales of weapons due to laws that the NRA championed and unable to get AG's to press charges when they could.

Then the NRA presses congress to vote to indite on contempt or risk being pressured in the next election ...and it worked 16...16 Dems voted against a Democratic AG on these grounds..on a problem the laws the NRA lobbied for caused the mess to begin with.Amazing.

Odd. That's not what is says in Article III of the U.S. Constitution. Wait, doesn't this guy call himself a Constitutional Scholar?

Perhaps what he is saying is that, later, with the right balance of power in the court the same decision may go the other way and what was constitutional will then be unconstitutional.

It sounds like Rand sees the constitution as a Platonic ideal independant of the actual wording or rules it contains. In which case it's the court's duty to uphold the Platonic ideal as Rand sees it, and what the constitution literally says is more like flavor text.

It's interesting to note though, that the concept of 'judicial review' (i.e. deciding on the constitutionality of laws) is indeed not explicitly granted to the SCOTUS in the Constitution. In fact the federal judiciary as established by the framers was easily the weakest branch of government.
The power of judicial review was established in Marbury v. Madison in 1803, and for the most part the power of the Court has slowly and steadily increased since that vital landmark.

That I think is the main issue and I believe they have some basis for believing that.

First they don't give a damn about the Democratic voter. The country is almost evenly divided and last election Obama won on a tidal wave of black vote. He didn't landslide in though and it will be hard for him to get the black voters out again after he has clearly shown he is an eliteist and owned by the corporations.

Second they have proven they don't need to to get elected to rule. They can play games all they want delaying etc. but in the end Obama will negotiate his way out of any good deal. And if they need to, their corporate sponsors will call in enough notes from the Dems.

Third do they really want to be the official people in charge of an near impossible to fix economy? They know what the stakes are and what the limitations on success are and short of going bankrupt to eliminate the Chinese spectre, which might piss off a lot of other countries who are creditors, what else can they do.

Fourth they are assholes and are very appealing to a lot of assholes who don't know their hole from an ass in the ground.

Fifth, there is no other choice for the American people short of revolting. The choices are, elect Republicans all round and get ready for endless wars, deficits, debt, unemployment etc. Elect Democrats all round and you get the same thing only you also get to watch constant absurdity from you elected representatives as they defer to the GOP. Elect 50/50 and you get a lame duck governement for another four years.

What is needed is a third party, even a small but united one, that can hold the balance of power assuming the members of that party are honest :) at least for one term. Currently the balance seems to hang on a couple or so swing Dems and an independant or two who are already in somebody's pocket.

It seems that in the USA democracy has run its course.

I see major changes in the future. Not necessarily in the next 5-10 years, but 15-25. The kind of dialog/methods/politicking the GOP employs has changed immensely since Reagan(who started it). The closest thing it reminds me of are schoolchildren in the playground - with either a massive depression/economic downturn, societal conflict and divisions making the US like Brazil, or revolution and revolt as a result.

The economy will change a great deal though if Romney wins the White House. My view is that those that have the economy by the balls are pretty much waiting..stalling...keeping their profit margins high (while reducing product and service), but decidedly not engaging in "trickle down" economics. Credit is not being extended, developers aren't taking risks, and prices continue to rise increasing profit margins and share holders desires for dividends (who are mostly better off than 60% of the public anyway). When Wall Street and corporations know that they have "friends" in Washington, the money will flow - with the expectation of reduced regulations(or regulators simply looking the other way) yielding revenue streams that will more than compensate for losses over the short term. Interest rates will rise, products will become cheaper, and those with money to blow will take more risks.

If the Obama wins, I expect the economy to improve at a snails pace, getting worse before it gets better. Republicans (read : free market proponents) have already admitted to locking down and stalemating the process unless they get what they want. I've been told explicitly by liberal executives at fortune 50 companies that "Obama doesn't understand business" so we know that crony capitalists aren't exclusively republican.

The whole idea of a boom and bust economy is at the center of republican ideology, and that isn't likely to change any time soon.

Free-market truebelievers are well-represented in both US parties, and pretty much run the DCCC (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee) and, to a lesser and decreasing degree, DLC (Democratic Leadership Committe.)
