quote [ He wants the Bible to shape American politics, American law, American government, American values, American culture. That's the fight that he's fighting. ]
Rabidly anti-gay, anti-abortion, fundie spokesman claims credit for ousting gay Romney adviser Richard Grenell. How big an influence is he on the Romney campaign, and the GOP in general?
More on Fischer from People for the American Way. Yes, this is a left-leaning advocacy group, but their analysis here closely mirrors the recent profile on Fischer in the New Yorker.
[politics] [by sanepride@5:01pmGMT] [+6 Interesting] Abstract here, full article is no longer available. PM me for a link to download a PDF of the entire issue. Plenty of folks here say there's really not much difference between the Republicans and Democrats, Romney or Obama. On many issues they may have a point. But on these social issues- that go to the very heart of the concepts of 'freedom' and 'liberty' and the role of government in citizens' lives, as long as a candidate or their party is even willing to humor people like Bryan Fischer, there is indeed a stark and dramatic choice. |

"The Christian right and Fischer saw Grenell's resignation as a "tremendous victory," says New Yorker staff writer Jane Mayer." The Lord will surely be pleased. He will be pleased when this sort of person starts sending sinners to him via the stake too no doubt, if he ever gets the power. Watch out for his crowd. The Christian right is neither. |

Does anyone know how anti-abortion fundies reconcile their position in relation to Numbers 5:11-31? href="http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Numbers+5%3A11-31&version=NIV">http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Numbers+5%3A11-31&version=NIV |

I imagine the same way they deal with any bible passage that doesn't support their world view. |

My coworker would say that this was rendered null and void with the sacrifice of Jesus and the forming of the new covenant. All the old testament is basically historical data but not part of god's existing law according to him. |

If I'm not mistaken, every passage related to homosexuality being a sin is in that part rendered null and void. Of course, the christian right cherry-picks their favorite parts of the bible anyways, so that's nothing new. |

Everyone cherry-picks the parts that support their argument, whether arguing for or against religion or parts thereof. There's too much contradictory stuff to do otherwise. |

Nah, Paul of Tarsus makes his views on homosexuality pretty clear in his letters. Of course, Paul was a nutter and not too fond of sexuality in general. Jesus, however, had nothing to say on the subject. < A HREF="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexuality_in_the_New_Testament"> Wikipedia! |

Or where in the old testament did it have a problem with female homosexuality? From what I gather from the bible hetrosexual sex is far dirtier and more sinful, that's why we need marriage to make it okay enough to even procreate. God loves lesbians, kinda makes you think it was all written by a bunch of creepy old men. Dunno why religious people are hating on the lesbians these day. |
