quote [ Improbable as it seems, the Zimbabwean president, who is widely accused of ethnic cleansing, rigging elections, terrorising opposition, controlling media and presiding over a collapsed economy, has been endorsed as a champion of efforts to boost global holidaymaking. ]

What a bad article. Three paragraphs stating the UNWTO doesn't have an ambassadorship and dozens on how evil he is. This has left me even more confused. What the fuck actually happened? They sent him a letter? How many others did they send the exact same letter to? What the fuck does that letter even mean? Is this just some bullshit attempt to rail against the UN for no reason or is there actually something behind this? The article didn't answer a single one of those questions without quoting someone who I have no idea if they're biased or not. I've simply now assumed they're all biased and remain in my viewpoint that the UN is laughable and Mugabe should just be assassinated. *yawn* |

I expect better from the Guardian. Yes, this is just a big crock of sensationalist bullshit. From the 'Leaders of Tourism' page of the UNWTO, linked to from the very same article: UNWTO and WTTC will present an Open Letter to Heads of State and Government worldwide, highlighting the importance of Travel and Tourism. In turn, Heads of State and Government will accept this letter in acknowledgement of the relevance of travel and tourism in facing today’s global challenges. So apparently, Mugabe (and no doubt several other distasteful world leaders) is merely on a list of recipients of this ceremonial letter. Another case of lazy journalism, nothing to see here... |

I can't glean from the article whether Mugabe was asked, or did ask. |

Its about as scandalous as when the Burger King Kids Club appointed Kim Jong-Un the bacon whopper junior envoy. Mayor McCheese at the urging of the frykids recalled all ambassdors and started a motion for sanctions. As for Mugabe, well i think this chucklehead might be responsible, Taleb D. Rifai |
