Nerd used to be a derogatory term. Then it became a compliment and enjoyed widespread use, even spawning a kind of nerd-chic. Now I've started using it like a curse word. |

Your homophobia betrays your foppishness good sir. To be accepted is empowering, and only the strong may empower. Acceptance is strength. Only the weak hide behind the walls of a closed mind. Having said that, a naked woman jumping out of a helicopter would have had an entirely different ending, and one I suspect we'd have found distressful. Be Excellent! |

With the boxes to land on, it kind of feels like saying a stuntman landed a jump off a building but p.s., landed on a giant airbag. I mean, I guess this is cool and all, but it seems the landing is impossible without the boxes or something similar, so is it anything other than an extreme stunt? |
|
KingPellinore
said @ 2:42pm GMT on 24th May
Of course it's just an extreme stunt. But it's one that hasn't been done before and stunt people tend to take that kind of thing seriously. Besides, what did you expect? He'd just hit the ground at 50mph, tuck and roll and pray for the best? |

No, I didn't expect that he'd tuck and roll at a hundred kph, but splashing down in a pile of boxes is different than a "landing". |

I would like to see someone land a wingsuit on water ... certainly there's a technological solution that would allow transitioning between appropriate suit types. Maybe more of a buoyant crash suit with detachable wings? |

KingPellinore
said @ 9:55pm GMT on 24th May
It'd have to also absorb the impact. At 50mph, water's surface tension would make for a nasty impact. |

Grinding the crack. I love how he says "I came extremely close on that one". Shame that wasn't close enough for him in general *cough*. I'd really like to start seeing more tricks in the air though (flips, tumbles, moves) as opposed to just coming as close to the ground as possible. |

Every time I see the wingsuit video I wonder if when you fly that low, is there some sort of ground effect going on where the air pressure between the ground and the wings creates a buffer, making it easier to skim the surface? I mean of course it wouldn't be enough to keep you from hitting the ground, but there could be some push back to make it ever so slightly less dangerous than it looks, or at least provide tactile feedback of how close you're getting. |

I'm pretty sure Jeb was implying someone doing a parachute landing on their feet. It'll happen one day. Even an inline-skates landing would count, for now. In the meantime I'd like to see Connery attach toboggan runners to his chest and touch down on a snow slope |

Yeah. All you need is a ball and a net! Err... wait. You need an expensive gliding suit. You need enough money to travel to elevated locales or pay someone to fly you thousands of feet into the air. You need to have a pension for life-or-death close calls fueled by an increased sense of boredom with life. Screw that. I'll be doing work/hobbies that are fun, productive, relatively cheap, and relatively safe. |
