The fucked up part is that with people like that holding the levers of power, Zimbabwe's AIDS rate has still decreased by almost half.

Of course, given that we have fundies trying to legislate the age of the earth as 6000 years, it doesn't look like we're much better off than the residents of this benighted shithole, leadership-wise. Step 1: recall how shitty US politics is and how ignorant prominent US politicians can be.

Step 2: reflect that Zimbabwe's political system is incomparably shittier than the US, as evidenced by recent hyperinflation as well as the fact that Robert Mugabe has been head of state (read: dictator) since 1987 and regularly has his political opponents killed or beaten.

The really crazy thing is that, in a lot of ways, they're the good guys. Zanu-PF is Mugabe's party, the dictator that almost flushed the country down the tubes. Only because of MDC-T effort did things stabilize a little.
