The Jobless Map of Britain

quote [ Watch unemployment spread across Britain since September 2008 ]

I love this stuff!

Just when you think things can't get any bleaker in the motherland.... the UK Guardian gives us this.

England has to WIN the world cup to turn this around. Seriously.

If they have nothing to do anyway they could train harder for the winter olympics.

They kinda suck at the moment.

meh, they're probably just pretending Canada is part of them in more than a symbolic way, and gloating over their gold medal lead.
sacrelicious said @ 7:46pm GMT on 27th Feb
btw, fuck canada for apollo not being as good as your guy. that's low, man. real low.

They get to borrow the medals in exchange for letting us take the whole burning the White House story for a spin every now and then.
sacrelicious said @ 7:59pm GMT on 27th Feb
just like we borrow the Stanley Cup every now and then in exchange for letting you believe you aren't almost exactly like us?

What do you expect? Just about every Christmas some great bloody spaceship full of aliens looking for steak and human kidney pie shows up and that Doctor fellow has to run 'em off. Costs a few quid to clean up the remains and put Big Ben back to rights, dunnit?
drunk said @ 8:35pm GMT on 27th Feb
Shouldn't that be creating jobs in the restoration industry?

For the uninformed, the above improvised dialogue is a la Alf Garnett (Warren Mitchell) from Till Death Us Do Part - yank version was 'All in the Family' with Archie Bunker- lives in Awwwstraylya. Has done for 25 years now. Saw Warren and Mel Gibson in 'Death of a Salesman'. Best play/performance of mainstream theatre I ever seen. Spike MIlligan came to live in Australia too. Woy Woy.
I'm waiting for Ricky Gervais to come and live here. I so want to ask him to do the chicken eating scene from comic relief. Yeah, he'd tell me to f**k off, but I don't care.
For the uninitiated, here's the video - UK Comic Relief 2009.

wait, they track their unemployment by small regions rather than by huge states where the real meaning of the numbers is easy to lose? well la-dee-da!
theolypse said @ 12:00am GMT on 28th Feb
They're basically a single state, though.

Actually- I'm quite happy about this. There should be some shit-hot music resulting from this.
v21 said @ 3:26pm GMT on 28th Feb
The working class music action is grime and dubstep and that kind of stuff. S'mainly the posh kids who like things with guitars in.
sacrelicious said @ 3:59pm GMT on 28th Feb
the UK side of the punk movement largely came out of the ska scene that was big with the poor kids at the time.

and regardless, who says the good music that comes out of this has to have guitars in it? and I say that as someone who listens to almost no music that is guitarless.
v21 said @ 10:22pm GMT on 28th Feb
I say nothing about it having to have guitars in (although I am a posh kid, and mainly listen to music with guitars in.) I am just warning lilmookie that he may be an old fogie and detest the abominable racket the poor kids are making. And that if he wants to start checking out the poor kids music, he should check out dubstep, pirate radio and grime (say, some of Wiley's mixtapes?)
