quote [ A punk-rock band with an unprintable name and a 300-pound frontman who's known to strip down to his underwear during performances has won the C$20,000 Polaris Music Prize for the best Canadian album. ]
Amazingly TIGHT, slightly (more) melodic Canuck Hardcore. Cool thing is that these guys are taking the 20 grand and making an album to bring to light the *HUNDREDS* of First Nations women that are missing in Canada.

Man that host's voice is so CBC radio, it's awesome to attach a face to that kind of voice. |

Nice! The last Canadian Punk Rock band I remember was the Dayglow Abortions, but that was years ago. Not saying there is no Punk in Canada, just that I live in Arizona and don't hear much of it. These guys are pretty cool. I really like what they're doing. |

Propagandhi? Who I personally think are far more talented and relevant than Fucked-Up. |

*Winning the Polaris Prize* and potting the $20k towards an album that will serve to bring to light, the plight of *missing First Nations women* in Canada shows neither talent, nor relevancy? Give your head a shake, my friend. Nothing against Propagandhi as they definitely 'champion the cause'. |

Meh, I don't like them, but I like the fact they outed the more mainstream tunebots for the glory. Plus I like their angle with the charity thing. |

awful... turn it up and shout... Yes it did beat the mainstream artists but with bands like Silver Mt Zion coming from Canada its hard to see how these guys were deemed to have been the best Canadian band... |

What, besides navel-gazing, are you supposed to do when you listen to these guys? Thanks for the comment though, cause they are actually pretty good. Not something that I'd be 'chomping at the bit' to go see in concert though. If you can't see the merit in their efforts, and why they achieved what they did then (on a theoretical level) it's your loss. |

and they beat K'naan? That's silly. His new recording is just fucking brilliant. Wavin' Flag alone is worth the price of admission. |

Ehhhh. At least we can all agree that Metric's last album was shit and they deserved nothing. Common ground and all that. |

Nothing against K'naan-He's good at his craft but perhaps for *THIS* award, both he and Metric crew are victims of their own success? |

6 is way too many people to be in a punk band. Hmmm.. other canadian punks? I was riding next to one of the guys in Mass Grave on a greyhound going to Vancouver 2 months ago. I know Winnepeg has a lot of hardcore, and some grindcore, that come down here to minneapolis on occasion. |
They beat Canadian Heavyweights K'naan and Metric!! Myspace tunes in extended.
