Black people use them to hunt other black people. And white people use them to hunt black people that didn't get killed by other black people in the first place. |

I've heard this argument before and I've never quite understood it. Why does it matter what they bring in as reinforcements. Just because they own a tank does that make them on the right side of whatever the conflict is? Does it somehow undo your original reasoning for wanting to defend yourself? If the soap gets dropped in prison, you're going to start squirming if someone gets the idea that they want to be more than just friends....do you relax and give in just because a few of his buddies come to hold you down? There's still an event going on that you don't want to happen and I don't see how that suddenly get dissolved just because they have better backup. |

Its about the efficacy of fighting an entire government with pistols and rifles when they have overwhelming firepower. In this case carrying a gun just makes you dead. All it would accomplish would be to give you the false sense of safety before you're smeared by a UAV piloted by some merc who doesnt give a shit about you. If your really worried about having to fight the government in the near future, do like Iran and learn from the conflict in Iraq. As i understand it, its the bombs and mortars that seem to really rattle the soldiers more so than the wackos with AK's. |

Valkoinen_Kettu
said @ 11:58am GMT on 17th Apr
Yes because Iraqi insurgents don't carry guns. They just use bombs and mortars and when we come in close proximity of them with guns they just give up. Fighting a war requires small arms as well as big ones. I don't see how having a gun would hurt, a UAV can't determine who has a concealed firearm. Anyway I'd say the average American is a better marksman than the average Iraqi and most have really good hunting rifles which would do better in such a conflict then "assault weapons" (Read: a semi-auto clone of an assault rifle such as an AK-47 or M16. Properly known as AKM and AR-15. No selective fire means no assault weapon.) A hunting rifle is a lot stronger and long ranged then the average "assault weapon". I think an American strategy in such a conflict would involve lots of sniping and running. |

The NIJ has been working on concealed weapon detection system since 95, with the end goal of producing a device that at a minimum of 12 feet can detect a weapon, one that is portable enough and cheap enough to be used by a patrol officer. For all i know they have hit a brick wall, but if your going to wait until you see it on the military channel or in TIME it will already have been in use for a while. Sniper detection systems have already been made and tested out. The weapons and systems that are being developed to combat guerilla fighters in foreign countries, to fight terrorists, will be just as usefull in administrating a police state. This kind of conflict is not conventional warfare, walking around with long guns and pistols would not be an option. You might as well march in formation in big red coats and use muskets. Yes im sure there are a lot of iraqi insurgents with guns. Im certain you find those guns right next to the bodies of their former owners. Its the fucker who fights without the need of line of sight that will be harder to target. All of this is moot anyway. There are several ways to combat this kind of thing, and i imagine the best method involves ensuring it never comes to guerilla fighting. In this hypothetical US civil war scenario, its not becoming a fascist government. With the Iraqi's... Id say we were on the right course by building up infrastucture and creating jobs. If it werent for foreign agents capitalizing on the rawness of the new country we might have seen some real progress. |
