Mind Game

quote [ Put a bullet in him, on cue, just when he said "Hur!", out the front before "t"! ]

Stream of consciousness anime movie.
Beautiful.

I marked it not worksafe for some fan service, some language and some bullet up the asshole.
Nothing very offensive, but I don't know what your job is.

I haven't been this wow'ed by a film like this since I first saw a Miyazaki film. The experience is much different though. Miyazaki's movies always have me grinning from ear to ear with the life dripping from each frame and the joyous innocence of his characters. Mind Game was much deeper and thought provoking. This is a rare film that never let my mind be at ease and kept me constantly thinking.

my friend sent me the soundtracks to mind game the other day. they're done by seiichi yamamoto, of both ROVO and the boredoms. would anyone like me to upload them on megaupload or something?

holy shit! someone else into ROVO! i knew boredoms were always fairly popular for the real underground, but ROVO!? awesome. imago & live at tonic! are fairly easy to find but it took me forever to get my hands on a copy of SAI.

for those of you reading this, YES, you do want gunthar to megaupload ROVO.

have you ever seen any of the old yamamoto video's of him playins all his crazy psych and fusion shit in the late 70's? standing upstage playing guitar with girls peiing on him at the same time and stuff, it's a trip!

We watched this last semester in my Contemporary Japanese Film class, and I was disappointed to hear that there are no plans of bringing a DVD over to America.

It's a great movie (and I'm not even really into anime), I just don't think I'd watch it on YouTube.
ChrisUshi said @ 6:03pm GMT on 1st Nov
I saw this at an anime club meeting in the animation department (duh) of my school. it's so fantastic. THe animation styles that are employed are amazing, the story is just stellar. nice find.

Whoever came up with the movie is a genius. Thanks for linking it for all to see.

yeah, "stream of consciousness" animation... what's that old joke about animators getting tired from drawing so fast?

easily the most sphincter-clenching moment of any animated film can be found near the beginning of this little gem. can't miss it.

I want to mod this +1 Good for being a great post; +1 Informative for displaying to me that the literary and visual boundaries I had for animation (and frankly any film in general) were so narrow; +1 Underrated for a film that, upon research, is getting very little recognition outside of the festival circuit; and +1 Insightful for allowing me to experience such an emotionally and mentally intense piece of artwork that lifted my spirit in a way that so few things can.

Wow, another anime that people who say they don't like anime can say they like so that they can appear trendy in front of their friends who are unimpressed by turtleneck sweaters, Proust and underground music shows.

+1 pretentious and hard to understand intellectually masturbatory Japanese schlock.
